LaNaval Shipyard Lays Keel of Texelstroom


Spain’s LaNaval Shipyard has laid the keel of the ferry Texelstroom, ordered by the dutch company Royal N.V. Texels Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming (TESO). Texelstroom, 135 meters long and 28
meters wide, will carry up to 1,750 persons and 350 vehicles. The vessel will be powered by diesel-oil or alternatively natural gas, being helped also by electric batteries charged by over 700 square meters of solar panels. Texelstroom will operate between the port of Den Helder, at the north of The Netherlands, and the island of Texel.

LaNaval and TESO signed the contract for the design and construction of the ferry in May 2014, and since then the shipyard has carried out the class approval process of the design with Lloyd’s Register, as well as the selection of the suppliers for the main equipment and systems.The vessel is expected to be delivered by the beginning of 2016.
