Hyproc Turns to Hyundai Heavy for LNG Newbuilds

Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (South Korea), has received an order for two newly built LNG tankers with an option for a third tanker from Hyproc, the marine transportation subsidiary of
Algerian state-owned hydrocarbon company Sonatrach. The newly built LNG tankers will be of the 170,000 cubic meter class, and will be powered by dual-fuel diesel-electric (DFDE) systems.

The vessels are scheduled for completion from the end of 2016 to the first half of 2017. Japan’s Itochu Corporation has provided assistance up to the signing of the contract and will support implementation until handover of the vessels, the company said in a release. Itochu today jointly owns and operates three LNG tankers with Sonatrach, Hyproc and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines.
