On board interior crew training attracts new investment

Barcelona Crew advises that on board interior crew training programmes are continuing to grow in popularity, with superyacht owners, captains and department managers more willing to invest in recent years. According to a recent Dockwalk.com poll of stewards/stewardesses, around 63% of respondents have conducted or participated in some form of interior crew training on board: A statistic that Barcelona Crew attributes to the industry’s growing understanding of the benefits of such programmes for service standards, crew motivation and decreased turnover. Matye Bruguera, managing director of Barcelona Crew said, “On board interior crew training is much more effective than equivalent shore-side education, especially in the long term, as crew learn by doing practical tasks alongside their immediate colleagues, within their authentic working environment aboard. “On board training ensures that housekeeping departments will be able to work together to put into practice what they have learnt, with the tools and utensils that they will be using daily, upon the floors and surfaces that they will be serving every day. “Benefits of such training includes improved working relationships and a renewed motivation among participants, as well as reduced costs and fewer logistical arrangements for the owner and his captain.” Just as the size of the average superyacht has increased over the last decade, Mayte suggests that the uptake of such professional training has also increased, as yacht owners and captains realise the benefits. According to Yachting Pages Media Group, a specialist in providing products and services to the superyacht industry, this awareness comes well timed, as discussions about the negative consequences of training investment have recently resurfaced within the industry in regards to increased crew turnover.
